John Wilson Paschal, 74, of Grapevine, TX passed away on Wednesday, July 30th.
John was born on July 19, 1951 in Newton, Iowa, the son of Paul Paschal and Hazeldean (Butler) Paschal.
John graduated from Newton Senior High School in 1969, then went on to Marshalltown Community College.
John married Nancy McPherren Mahl on June 24th, 1978, at the First United Methodist Church in Newton, Iowa. They were married for 47 years. Nancy brought 3 children into the marriage (he was a brave man!). Jon 12, Tim 11, and Amy 6, and together they had Amanda in 1981. What a beautiful family they made!
John worked for The Vernon Company in Newton, Iowa in the supplemental lines department and became manager of the department. He then worked for The Lee Wayne Company in Sterling, IL for a short time before returning to The Vernon Company. In 1985 they moved to Grapevine, TX to work for DACO in Fort Worth. He spent the last years of his career as National Sales Manager at Nationwide Advertising in Arlington, TX, where he worked until his retirement.
In his retirement years John worked for the City of Grapevine as a crossing guard at Silver Lake Elementary School. He had so much fun each day with the kids and parents that he met, and they all loved John.
For many years John volunteered at the Runway Theater in Grapevine. He mostly worked on building sets and doing any other jobs they needed done. A few times he was talked into being onstage and even won a “No part too small” award. He was awarded the Hall of Fame award recognizing his years of service.
John was well known in Grapevine for his years of walking on the trails, always wearing his floppy hat.
John was most known for his quick wit. He loved making people laugh and he did it so well. If you heard the name John Paschal, it was always followed by “he’s such a good man”.
Left to cherish John’s memory are his wife, Nancy Paschal of Grapevine; sister Paula (Rick) Johnson of Waverly, IA; children, Amanda (Greg) Perry of Little Elm, TX, Tim (Amy) Mahl of Newton, IA, and Amy (Brent) Gregurek of Johnston, IA; grandchildren Joseph Mahl, Maddie Gregurek, Makenna (Anders) Vendt, Hannah Gregurek, Griffin Perry, Gabriella Perry, and Greyson Perry; great-grandchildren Holdyn Mahl and Carson Mahl.
Preceding John in death are his father, Paul Paschal, mother Hazeldean Paschal, son Jon Mahl, and cousin Larry Moore and many aunts and uncles.
Visitation and Funeral Services will be held at Lucas Funeral Home, 700 W Wall St. in Grapevine, TX on Saturday, August 9th from 10:00am – 1:00 pm, with the service starting at 11:00.
