John Mario Pezzullo, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on February 7, 2026, at the age of 81 in Middletown, NY.
Born on October 15, 1944, in
the Bronx, New York, John's life was a testament to the values of love, generosity, and service.John shared a blissful life with his loving wife, Marilyn Weldt-Pezzullo, who, alongside his children and grandchildren, filled his days with joy and laughter. He was predeceased by his first wife, Andrea Pezzullo, who shared in the upbringing of their wonderful family. Together, they raised two sons, John A. Pezzullo and his wife Bridget, and Anthony J. Pezzullo and his wife Carol. John took immense pride in his role as a grandfather to John A. Pezzullo II and wife Mary, Antimo J. Pezzullo, Michael Andujar and wife Wendy, Robert L. Pezzullo and wife Deirdre, Andrea B. Pezzullo, and Anabelle C. Pezzullo. His love extended to his great-grandchildren, Jaylene, Juliana, Isla, Ezio, Peyton, and Patricia, who will carry on his legacy of kindness.
After completing his education in high school and art school, John dedicated many years of his life to the New York City Sanitation Department, where he was respected and admired as a hardworking supervisor. His colleagues cherished his leadership and his unyielding commitment to the community he served. A devout Christian, John was an active member of St. Joseph Church, where he found strength and solace in his faith. His involvement in the church was just one of the many ways he contributed to his community, always ready to lend a helping hand or share a word of encouragement. John's passion for classic cars was matched only by his love for his family. A gifted and handy individual, he could often be found tinkering with engines or restoring beauty to vintage automobiles. His expertise and enthusiasm for cars brought joy to many and inspired those around him.
To those who knew him, John was affectionately known as grandpa or pop, a testament to the warmth and affection he extended to all. His generous spirit and loving nature were the cornerstones of his character, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of those he touched. John's life was a beautiful portrait of love in action. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to know him. His memory will be cherished, and his spirit will continue to guide and inspire future generations. As we say goodbye to John Mario Pezzullo, we celebrate a life well-lived, full of purpose, kindness, and an unwavering dedication to family and community.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 pm on Wednesday, February 11th and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm on Thursday, February 12, 2026 at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc, 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, NY 10940. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, February 14, 2026 at St. Joseph's Church, 149 Cottage Street, Middletown, NY, followed by interment in the Queen of Peace Mausoleum at St. Joseph's Cemetery.
