Obituary published on Legacy.com by Rone Funeral Service - Vineland on Feb. 5, 2025.
John A. Pilla Jr. of Vineland went home to be with the Lord on February 3, 2025 at the age of 71. He died peacefully at home, surrounded by his family, after a long battle with Parkinson's Disease.
John was the son of John Sr. and Evelyn Pilla and was born in Philadelphia. The family moved to Vineland in 1959, where John grew up and lived the rest of his life. He graduated from Vineland High School in 1971.
John had a lengthy and successful career in the casino industry in Atlantic City. He rose from the ranks of dealer to become a Gaming Supervisor and received numerous awards for his service including "The Visionary Leader" and "Excellence in Management" Awards along the way. John was also elected as the Ambassador of the Taj Mahal.
In his free time, John was an avid golfer and fisherman, who especially loved to cook what he caught. His love of travel took him to many destinations throughout the United States and Europe over the years as well.
John made lots of friends throughout his life to share his many experiences, but his greatest passion was his family, whose love for him was equally as deep.
He will be sadly missed by those who survive him including his beloved wife, Joyce (Serra); sister, Barbara Pilla Goretsky (Charles); brother Gregory (Leilani), niece Elise Engen (Nicholas); nephews, Brian Pilla (Jamie) and Jeffrey Pilla (Kelly) and grandniece and grandnephew Cordelia Pilla and Clayton Engen.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to The Michael J. Fox Foundation, P. O. Box 4777, New York, NY 10163-4777

John was a real gentleman, a genuine person and a good human. He was always fun to be around, and he cared a great deal about both his family and his group of friends. He used to call me "Olive Oyl," which was not the most flattering of nicknames, but it was an accurate description of my "body type" and the way he'd say it always made me laugh! From him I learned all about crabbing, properly using Old Bay Seasoning and how to drive a stick shift. My thoughts are with his family, and I pray for his eternal comfort in Heaven.
