John E. Prince, 77, of
Rockford, Illinois, passed away unexpectedly on December 7, 2025, after a long and courageous battle with numerous health challenges, including cancer. Though his spirit remained strong, his body ultimately grew weary.
Born and raised in Chicago, John often reminisced about his childhood on Taylor Street, where he created lifelong memories with his brother and sisters. Later, he returned to the city's northwest side, where he formed deep friendships with many Vietnam veterans. He carried immense pride for their service and spoke of them often. John also held great respect for the military service of his cousin, Billy, his father-in-law, Louis, and especially his father, Raymond Prince, a devoted lifelong serviceman.
John began his career with ComEd at a young age, starting in the mailroom and working his way up through hard work and determination. He ultimately became a successful Real Estate Coordinator and retired in his early fifties. Retirement allowed him to focus on what mattered most to him - his family and their happiness. He treated himself to a Harley and a Camaro, embraced life with enthusiasm, and enjoyed escaping to Florida during the cold months until his health began to decline.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to all who touched John's life over the years - including many who have already passed on. He was blessed by your support, and your kindness continues to mean so much to those he leaves behind.
In keeping with his wishes, John's close family will mourn in private. For those who feel moved to honor him, they ask that you hug your loved ones and consider donating to a cancer organization of your choice. The type of cancer John faced has claimed many lives far too quickly, and he fought longer and harder than most.
To all who knew him, John will be remembered as strong, determined, and unwavering in his fight. A donation in his name would help carry his spirit forward and allow us all to celebrate his life a little further down the road.
John is survived by his children, John (Jennifer) Prince and Amy (Joshua) Eich; grandchildren, Maren Betterman, William John Eich, Gavin Thomas Eich, and Sean Joseph Eich; sisters, Diane Prince, Christine Prince, Patricia (Ted) Wilhite, and Cathy Pilkington; nieces and nephews, Heather, Ray, Roy, Debra, Jennifer, and Catherine; mother of his children, Marilyn Prince. Predeceased by his parents, Raymond Prince and Mildred Jacobson; brother, Raymond Prince; niece, Dolores; nephew, Roy.
John will be laid to rest at Bluff City Cemetery in Elgin, IL.
