Obituary published on Legacy.com by Iles Grandview Park Chapel on Sep. 19, 2025.
John Renteria, 90, of Des Moines, IA, passed away peacefully on September 3, 2025. He was born on November 3, 1934, in Blue Earth, Minnesota, to Roberto and Juanita (Ortiz) Renteria.

He spent 38 years with the Rock Island Railroad before retiring. Outside of work, John enjoyed cheering for his favorite sports teams, the Kansas City Chiefs and the Iowa Hawkeyes. He was also an avid fan of Caitlyn Clark, always excited to watch her play.

John enjoyed his trips to Meskwaki casino and especially treasured the time he spent with his family. His stories and sense of humor will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

He is lovingly remembered by his children: Sheryl (Dale) Goddard, Vickie (Dale) Anderson, John (Leona) Renteria, and Pam (Mike) Stephenson; nine grandchildren: Angela Leeper, Amy (Richard) Wolver, Aron (Ashley) Anderson, Ashley (David) Blackburn, Savanna (Travis) Putney, Matthew Stephenson, Casey Renteria, Damian Six, Steven Cleghorn and eleven great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life will be held 1-3 p.m., Saturday, September 13, 2025 at Cross Creek Lutheran Church of Cross, 1975 8th St SW, Altoona, IA.

My heart and prayers are with all who loved John. I am ever grateful for the love and care he showed his grandchildren - and especially, Casey. John was such a talented, creative man. He will be sorely missed.

Sheryl and Vickie, I remember when you lived on E. 13th St in Des Moines. We used to play, sometimes through the fence and sometimes in the yard. Your dad was always so kind and calm. My dad had already died so I liked to watch how dads acted. You got to have your dad for a long time and I hope you have wonderful memories of him, to help bring you peace. Your family are in my thoughts and prayers. Peace, Debbie Jackson Reser
