John Reyes Obituary

ODESSA - John Paul Carrion Reyes

John Paul Carrion Reyes, 37, passed away July 11th, 2022, at Midland Memorial Hospital.

He was born and raised in Odessa, Texas on August 27th, 1984 to Elfleda (Lyd) and Carlos Reyes. John Paul attended St. Mary's Catholic School, Bowie Junior High, Odessa High School, Odessa College, and spent the majority of his professional career working in coil tubing.

If you knew John Paul, then you know that he deeply loved his family and friends. He was the son of 2 immigrants that instilled in him the value of hard work, love of neighbors, country, and faith. Being the oldest of 4 boys he had a strong passion for the well-being of others, whether you were family or a stranger. That commitment to his role often found him giving graciously to those who were in need. Having been raised Catholic, he lived out his faith by sharing his love with the world! The Bible verse he chose to live by was John 15:12-13, "My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this; to lay down one's life for one's friends."

In July 2008, he married his high school sweetheart Esther Molinar and together they had 2 beautiful daughters Janice Reyes and Jocelynn Reyes whom he was more proud of than anything in life. Their time together revolved around motorcycles, food, sports, country music, family, and living life. Being a hardcore Raiders fan from the days of Bo Jackson, he would often be spotted decked out in his favorite team sportswear on gameday and often on the back of his Harley Davidson making friends.

He is preceded in death by Maria Farr (aunt), Honorato Carrion (uncle), Juliette Petruzzi (aunt). He is survived by his two daughters, Janice Nicole Reyes, 23, Jocelynn Victoria Reyes, 9, the mother of his children, Esther Marie Molinar, 38, his parents, Lyd, 65, and Carlos, 65, and his brothers, Justin, 36, Joshua, 30, Jeremy 25, and several aunts, uncle, cousins, multiple godchildren, one niece, Zélie Catherine Reyes, and one nephew, Joseph Augustine Reyes.

There will be a vigil at Sunset Memorial on Tuesday, July 19, 2022, from 5 pm-7 pm with a rosary to follow.

The funeral mass will be on Wednesday, July 20, 2022, at 11 am at St Mary's Catholic Church, 612 E. 18th St., Odessa, TX 79761.

If you would like to join the bike rally, please arrive at sunset at 9am on Wednesday, July 20th, 2022.

The Family of John Paul Reyes wish to extend their sincere thanks to the medical staff at Midland Memorial, the Paramedics and EMS response team of Midland, Texas, and especially Father Rodney White who administered the Last Rite and other clergies, The Daughters of Mary, The Knights of Columbus, Double T Oilfield Services, Pastor and staff of St Mary's Church, and the numerous friends and family for all their selfless love and continued support.

In lieu of flowers and gifts, the family requests memorial tributes in John Paul's honor to be directed to St. Mary's Catholic Church in Odessa, Tx for the continued growth and creation of the new columbarium at St. Mary's.
