John Thomas Rogers Jr, 79, passed away Sunday, October 27, 2024, at Moses Cone Hospital surrounded by the three loves of his life, Ann, Michelle, and Katelin, following complications from a fall. He was a devoted husband, father, pawpaw, and brother as well as a faithful member of Bible Baptist Church. John was born on February 15, 1945, in Durham NC.
John had a wonderful sense of humor and made everyone laugh everywhere he went. He had a keen sense of hearing when it came to sirens and was always curious where they were headed. His last ride was in an ambulance with the sirens going. John loved old cars, golfing, and racing. He was an avid traveler and loved to travel whether it was a day trip or for an extended period of time.
John was in the Army from 1963 until 1965, and proudly served in Berlin, Germany. He was employed as Personnel Manager at Sellars Department Store.
John is survived by his beloved wife, of 57 years, Ann Rogers, who he met and fell in love with at 18 years old, their daughter Michelle Gindlesperger as well as his cherished granddaughter Katelin Gindlesperger (Fiancé Tyler Gordon). He also leaves behind his sisters Bobbie Hauser and Ann King (Marlie). His sister-in-law Sandra Wimbish, brother-in-law Buddy Whitesell (Karen), Terry Whitesell (Becky), and Tony Whitesell (Sherron), numerous nieces and nephews, and his partner in crime and side kick Cyndi Ring. John was preceded in death by his father, John Thomas (JT) Rogers, his mother, Ollie S. Rogers, father-in-law; Charles Whitesell, mother-in-law; Ruth Whitesell and his brother in Laws Bud Hauser, Tommy Wimbish, and sister-in-law Gail Whitesell.
A funeral service to celebrate John’s life will be held on Wednesday, October 30, 2024 in the chapel at Lowe Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 1:45 prior to the service at the funeral home. There will be a graveside service at 12:00 noon on Friday at Alamance Memorial Park.
