John Cecil Rogers, 87, born on February 19, 1938, in Buncombe, North Carolina, passed away peacefully at home on September 28, 2025, with his family by his side.
John had a distinguished career, initially employed by American Enka and later by BASF, where he ultimately retired. Following his retirement, he dedicated several years as a Security Officer at Mission Hospital. Beyond his career, he was known as an avid hunter and fisherman, often exploring the unknown terrains of Mills River to seek out the best fishing spots.
John's passion for life extended deeply into his family. He cherished his role as "Papaw" and "Poppie" to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, forming bonds that will endure through generations. He took great pride in being a faithful member of Good News Baptist Church, where he contributed spiritually to his community. In addition, he opened his heart and home as a foster parent to over thirty children, a testament to his compassion and generosity.
John is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Mildred Corn Rogers, and his children: sons Jeff (Marilyn) Rogers, Madison Rogers and Leo Tyus; daughters Sarah (Doug) Cole, Cheri (Keith) Austin, and Angela Dubs; along with grandchildren Stephen Cole, Jenna Cole, Jeremy Rogers, Johnathan Austin, Grisell Austin, Christopher Austin, and Sarah Austin. He also leaves behind his great-grandchildren Aiden, June, Abigail, and Emily, as well as numerous extended family members and friends who will cherish his memory.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Hobart McKinley Rogers and Gertrude Mae Henderson Rogers, six brothers, one sister, and the loss of an infant son, John Mark Rogers, and infant grandson, Brandon Keith Austin, along with four precious angel great grandbabies.
A visitation will be held at 1 Chapel of Faith Dr. Candler, NC, on October 1, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, followed by a graveside service at Forest Lawn Memorial Park at 12:00 PM with Pastor Steve Smith and Trevor Wester officiating.

The family has entrusted Wells Funeral Home of Candler with the care of John Cecil Rogers.
