John Royal Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Charlet Funeral Home, Inc., Zachary, LA on Feb. 5, 2025.
John Alvin (Al) Royal, 75, a resident of Zachary and native of Hahira, Georgia went to be with his Lord and Savior on January 18, 2025. At St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Zachary on February 11, 2025, a Rosary will be prayed at 10:00 am followed by visitation until mass at 11:30 am conducted by Fr. Lamar Partin. A 1:00 pm graveside service will be held at Louisiana National Cemetery in Zachary.
Becoming a part of the Tulagan Family was a huge milestone in Al's life. Al cherished the memories of good food, parties, and karaoke with his Tulagan Family, a family he adored so much and who adored him. Al enjoyed collecting model cars and baseball cards throughout his life. Much of his free time was spent at home watching old time westerns and enjoying time with family and friends. Al loved interacting with his nephews Sean and Riley, but his niece Avery had his heart. His love for country music and football was immense but his weekend trips to the casino was the highlight of his week.
Al served in both the United States Marine Corps and Navy throughout his military career earning multiple Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart during the Vietnam War. His mind was sharp and always enjoyed telling stories about his years in the service. Al loved his country and was extremely proud of his many military contributions. Al will be sorely missed by his family, but they take comfort in the wonderful memories he left with them.
Al is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Thelma T. Royal; son, John W. Royal (Gracia) of Zachary; sister, Lilliam Royal of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; brother, George W. Royal (Gloria) of Vienna, GA; grandchildren, Janine, Steven, Royce, and Elon Royal, Nelly Tarver and Jade Tarver and great grandchildren, Jacob Tarver, Zachary Tarver and Diane Foley, Aaron Smith and Matthew Smith
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Wesley Royal and Kathleen Royal; brother, Billy Royal.
Honorary pallbearers are John W. Royal, Blaine Sanchez, Wesley Sevilla and Steven Cochran.
