John B. “Bud� Ruby, Jr., 83, of Charleston departed this life Saturday, June 25, 2011 at his home following a long illness. He was born March 25, 1928 in Charleston a son of the late John B. and Hilda Perry Ruby. Bud was a 1946 Charleston High School graduate and a close friend to Skip Wilson and the family was very fortunate to depend on Skip during this time of sorrow. Bud then went on to graduate from West Virginia University with his Bachelors in Science of Business 1950. He was the son of the late owner of J.B. Ruby Motor Company. He was stockbroker for Moody and then retired after 32 years of service with the State of West Virginia as a Director of Excise and License, and was the state cashier for several years. He was avid boater, fisherman, golfer, and was member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Charleston. Bud was a US Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict as a First Lieutenant of the Screaming Eagles. He taught sharpshooters and Gatlin gun at Fort Benning, Ga., and was a member of VFW Post 7288 of Calabash, NC Survivors include his loving wife of 51 years Barbara Faull Ruby of Charleston, one son John B. Ruby III of Hurricane, one daughter Barbara Ann Smith and husband J. Michael of Charleston, one granddaughter B. Nicole Smith and Fiancée Adam Hackney both of Charleston, one grandson Michael I. Smith and wife Christina of Elkview, one great granddaughter Emaleigh N. Smith-Myatezh of Charleston Graveside services will be conducted Friday July 1, 2011 at 11am with Rev David A. Thaxton officiating at Sunset Memorial Park, South Charleston. Burial will follow after the service with military honors. In lieu of flowers the family ask donations be made to Hospicecare 1606 Kanawha Blvd W. Charleston, WV 25387.
