John William Rumsey

John William Rumsey, 59, of Rising Sun, IN, passed away at 12:12 AM, Tuesday, January 10th, 2017 at his residence. John was born in Batesville, IN on September 8, 1957, a son of Wanda (Smith) Rumsey and the late Louis Rumsey. He was graduate of Rising Sun High School, Class of 1975. John worked as a control operator for Dynegy, also for Cincinnati Gas & Electric and Duke Energy. John was very active in the Rising Sun community and was a member of the Rising Sun Masonic Lodge, Ohio County School Board and a City Council member. He was also a faithful member of the Rising Sun United Methodist Church. On October 16, 1976 he married Tina Marie (Estes) Rumsey. They were married by Tina's father, Rev. Robert Estes at the Dillsboro Baptist Church. John and Tina were married over 40 years. John enjoyed running, sports, hiking and walking. He was also a Cincinnati Reds, Bengals and IU fan. Spending time with his loving family made him the happiest. John is survived by his wife, Tina Rumsey of Rising Sun, IN; by his mother, Wanda Rumsey of Rising Sun, IN; by his son, Jeffrey Rumsey (Christina) of Rising Sun, IN; by two daughters, Kristin Miller (David) of Cincinnati, OH and Allison Summerford (Robert) of Hendersonville, TN; by grandchildren Greta and Barrett Rumsey; by a brother, Michael Rumsey of Rising Sun, IN; by a sister, Cheryl Grosser of Rising Sun, IN; by his mother-in-law, June Estes of Rising Sun, IN and by sister-in-law, Patty Wiley (Steve) of Livermore, CA. John was preceded in death by his father Louis Rumsey and his father-in-law Rev. Robert Estes. Funeral services will be 11 AM, Saturday, January 14th at the Markland Funeral Home in Rising Sun, In with Pastor Gregory Waggoner officiating. Friends are invited to call Friday 5-8 PM at Markland Funeral Home. Burial will be at Rising Sun New Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Rising Sun United Methodist Church.
