John Roy Russell

I was deeply saddened to hear of John´s passing. The best years of my working life were spent at Cole + Russell Architects, under the leadership of John Russell and Tom Cole. John´s calm, confident, yet determined demeanor was perfectly suited for his position as President and Chairman of the Board of the growing company. I was only too happy to be mentored by John, but to be honest- he was the kind of guy who could mentor you without you even knowing it- and I think that quality is very rare in the business world. I have (and will always have) a deep respect and appreciation for John, and will always be grateful for his positive impact on my personal and professional growth. Rest in peace, my friend.

John is on a very short list of men who shaped my career and made me the man I am today. His faith in me as a young man and architect continues to propel me forward in life. I will miss him dearly.

I came up to Cincinnati from Texas in 1989. I worked for Cole and Russell temporarily in late 1988 and early 1989. After talking to both John and Tom I offered my services and after talking with John further and a few months, we mutually agreed that I would come work for them. At that time the company was only about 13 people and John was a humble, soft spoken man of integrity that came through after only a few conversations. I was never disappointed as John taught me many things over my many over the years. I will miss him greatly as I am sure anyone who had the opportunity to know him would agree.

I have known John for 45 years, both personally and professionally. Knowing him has immeasurably enriched Pam and my lives. John was a man of incredible integrity and compassion for his fellow man.
