John Ryan, 62, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly at his home in Warsaw, New York, on May 22, 2025. Born on December 18, 1962, in Warsaw, John remained a lifelong resident of the community he loved and served so deeply.
A proud graduate of Warsaw Central School, John went on to build a career as a skilled tradesman before retiring from the Painters Union Local #150 in Rochester. His work ethic and dedication were evident not only in his profession but also in every aspect of his life.
John served honorably in the United States Army and continued his commitment to service long after his military tenure. He was deeply involved in veterans’ organizations throughout Wyoming County and Western New York. He held numerous leadership roles including commander of Walter Klein Post 532, provost marshal for the Wyoming County Veterans Club, scheduler for the Wyoming County Joint Veterans Honor Guard, flag committee chairman for the Wyoming County American Legion, and treasurer and recording secretary for the Wyoming County American Legion Riders. He was also a proud member of the American Legion Attica Post 734.
John’s passion for camaraderie and community extended beyond formal titles. He was a co-founder of the Wyoming County Legion Ryders and an active member of the U.S. Spyder Ryders of Western NY. An avid Spyder Ryder, John found joy riding alongside fellow veterans and friends—sharing stories, laughter, and the open road.
He embraced life with enthusiasm and humor. Whether enjoying a few adult beverages with friends, playing games of chance or corn hole, hunting in the woods, or barbecuing in his backyard, John brought warmth and laughter wherever he went. His home was more than just a house—it was a gathering place where family and friends were always welcome for good times and companionship.
John was the central figure of the Ryan family—a steady presence whose love and generosity shaped countless memories. He is survived by his wife and best friend Bridget Ryan; his son Rick Ryan (Farren); daughter Johnna Ryan (Cameron); granddaughter Nora Ryan; grandson Burkley Ryan; brother Russell Ryan (Susan); sister Lisa Chidsey (husband Mike); and nephew Nathan Ryan.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Margaret Ryan.
John’s legacy is one of service, loyalty, laughter, and love—a man who gave freely to others without hesitation. His impact on Warsaw’s veteran community is immeasurable; he will be remembered not only for what he did but for how he made people feel—welcomed, supported, and never alone.
May his memory bring comfort too those who knew him.
No formal calling hours will be scheduled. Services will be held on May 31, 2025 at 1PM at the Wyoming County Veteran’s Club, 245 W. Buffalo St., Warsaw.
