Just heard about John, I helped him fundraising for the Husker baseball program and ended up becoming great friends. What a gentleman, and we shared a lot of stories, especially the ones from the time he spent in his youth in Kearney. I have missed him so much. My sincere sympathy to his family. He touched so many over the years!

We were great friends in junior high and high school. He was an immensively talented athlete in four sports but quiet and humble on the field, court or in the hallways. We all shared his excitement in 1964 when he signed a pro contact with the KC Athletics and also during his very successful career managing baseball at Nebraska.
John was a real winner in so many ways. I have such fond memories of his special parents, Esther and Cliff and sister, Susan. My prayers and condolences go out to his family.
God Speed, John. Your memory looms large for a very long time.

John was a great mentor for me. We practiced at Wasmer school Discuss, shot put and pitching and catching. We always played baseball at the Platte Dutche in Grand Island,NE. My only regret is that I never got to catch John in a game. He signed that Pro contract in stead of playing his last year of Legion Baseball. He always ask me if I would like to work with his catchers at the University. He will be missed.
