John (Jay) Stewart Scharf, Tilton, NH
John Stewart Scharf of Tilton, NH passed away on January 21, 2025 at age 93 of natural causes. He was born on January 2nd 1932 on Nantucket Island. His mother always like to remind him he was a New Years baby (as no other babies had been born before him that year). He was the third son of Rudolph L. Scharf and Francis E. Weber. He spent his early childhood in Nantucket, New Bedford MA. and Belmont NH.
John graduated from Laconia High School in 1949. He spent 3 years in the Army during the Korean War. He went on to attend Boston University graduating in 1956 and University of Southern Maine with an MBA in 1971.
He married Patricia Kelsey on March 23, 1957, in New Canaan, Conn. Moving to Maine in 1964 with two sets of twin boys. While in Maine John worked as a salesman selling roofing products and started Northeast Building Products, a wholesale building products company with his brother Ernie.
His next adventure was to travel out to California to be near his sister Francis. His last career was transporting larger vehicles from manufactures to dealers. Showing up in NYC once with an ambulance he was delivering to MA.
He had a passion for the Patriots and of all things in the Conservative party.
John is survived by his sons, Ted K. Scharf of Augusta, Maine, Scott W. Scharf and his wife, Susan of Portland, Maine and Steven C. Scharf of Portland, Maine. He is also survived by an extend family from his brother and sister along with the family of Pauline Desrochers. He was predeceased by his father and mother Rudolph L. Scharf and Francis E. Weber, Sister Francis Warden and brother Ernest G Scharf, Son Eric G Scharf, Patrica Kelsey Scharf, and longtime partner Pauline Desrochers.
