John Philp Schmidt

John Philp Schmidt of Conyers, Georgia, passed away on Saturday, January 3, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. John was born on December 5, 1937, in Dallas, Texas, the son of Horace Schmidt and Constance Philp Schmidt. A proud graduate of Penn State University, he began his career in refrigeration engineering at Halstead and Mitchell in Zelienople, Pennsylvania. His work took the family to Scottsboro, Alabama, in 1973, and then to Georgia in 1987. John retired from Hill-Phoenix, Inc., Conyers, in 1999. He loved travel, beach trips, camping with friends, and spending time with his family. John was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church, Conyers. John is survived by his wife of 60 years, Elizabeth, and three children, Jennifer (Mark) Thoeny of Coralville, Iowa, Gregory Schmidt (Charlotte Morrison), of Auburn, Alabama, and Daniel Schmidt (Renee) of Cumming, and 10 grandchildren, Bryce (Laura Wiederholt) Thoeny, Renata (Jared Bloustine) Thoeny, Reid Thoeny, Ivan Phillips Schmidt, Leo Phillips Schmidt, Theodore Schmidt, Beatrice Schmidt, Susie McGeachy, Maria McGeachy, and Eliza McGeachy. The Funeral Mass will be held 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, January 13, at St. Pius X Church, Conyers. Burial will follow at Honey Creek Woodlands.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Haiti Humanitarian Fund or St. Vincent DePaul fund at St. Pius X Church, Conyers.
