John Paul Schroeder

John Paul Schroeder, who loved his parents, wife, sons, and grandchildren, entered the Kingdom of God on Wednesday May 30, 2018 having lived 91 years.John was born on May 10, 1927 on a dairy farm in Coal Valley, Illinois, to Frederick Christian Schroeder and Mabel Sievers Schroeder.? John was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters (Ruth Sulouff and Esther Schroeder), and his brother, Paul Schroeder.After graduation from Coal Valley High School, John entered Valparaiso University where he graduated with a biology degree, and more importantly met the love of his life, Georgiana Rupprecht.? John continued his studies at the University of Illinois, which were interrupted by three years' service to our country in the United States Army.? While in the Army, John and Georgiana were married April 30, 1955 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Indianapolis, a union that lasted 63 years.? After discharge and completion of his master's degree, John and Georgiana moved to Zionsville, Indiana in 1958 where John began employment with Pittman Moore, which was acquired by The Dow Chemical Company.? John enjoyed a long career in the Pharmaceutical industry, retiring in 1990.? Following retirement, John worked an additional twenty years seasonally at H & R Block.John and Georgi's marriage was blessed with two sons: John Paul Jr. (Cindy) of Granger, Indiana, and Steven Frederick (Barb) of Zionsville, Indiana.? In addition to his wife, sons, and their wives, John is survived by grandchildren Robert P. (Ariel) Schroeder, David C. (fianc? Katie Abata) Schroeder, Gwenlynn E. (Ben) Ortman, and Heidi A. Schroeder, and great-grandchildren Luke and Levi Schroeder.John lived his confirmation verse, "Whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. (Col 3:17)," giving of his time and talents to a wide variety of organizations:? Our Redeemer Lutheran Church (Indianapolis), congregation president; Valparaiso University - numerous boards, including alumni association president; Zionsville Emergency Ambulance, as both an EMT and president; Greater Zionsville Chamber of Commerce (president); Boy Scouts of America- local Scoutmaster, council committee, regional staff at the national jamborees; Christ Lutheran Church (Zionsville) where he co-led an bible study with two other men named John.John was honored for his service to others with the Valparaiso University Alumni Service award, Zionsville Jaycees Distinguished Service award, Zionsville Chamber of Commerce Town Crier award, and the Silver Beaver and Silver Antelope awards from the Boy Scouts.John passed along to his sons a faith in our risen Lord, and the peace that comes from knowing that we are redeemed children of God.? He also passed along a love of God's creation, teaching them landscaping, gardening, and camping through numerous Boy Scout trips.Arrangements have been entrusted to Simplicity Funeral and Cremation in Zionsville.? In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Valparaiso University Endowed Memorial Fund, the Crossroads of America Council Endowment - Boy Scouts of America, or a charity of your choice.Visitation will be from 3-6pm Sunday, June 3, and 10-11am Monday, June 4 at Christ Lutheran Church, Zionsville.? Funeral service will be at 11am Monday, also at Christ Lutheran Church, with lunch following. Burial will be at 3pm in Concordia Cemetery (2703 S. Meridian St., Indianapolis)
