John C. Schrum Sr.

John Calvin Schrum, Sr., 89, of Chesterfield County, VA, passed away on Monday, December 30, 2024. Born in Virginia on January 22, 1935, he was the son of the late Glen and Rachel Crowder Schrum. He was also preceded in death by his grandson, Jason Everett Schrum, and his brothers, Hunter Schrum and James Lewis. John worked for Brown and Williamson for 22 years, and then went on to retire from Reynolds Metal after 20 dedicated years. John also had a deep passion for farming. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Elizabeth Henshaw Schrum; daughters, Janet Marie Schrum and Donna Lynne Davis; son, John Calvin Schrum, Jr. and wife, Debra; grandchildren, Melissa Ann Bernhard, Abigail Lynn Fulgham, and Amanda Louise Davis; great-grandchildren, Brynn, Eric, and Teagan; brother, Lee Schrum; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.The family would like to give thanks to Amedysis Hospice, specifically Jennifer Bell, Lori, Meaghan, and Diana, for their compassionate care shown to John and the family. A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 2, 2025, at the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes, 2033 Boulevard, Colonial Heights, VA 23834. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be Private.
