John E. Schwartz, 67, of rural Monroe, Indiana, passed away Wednesday morning, January 7, 2026, at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
He was born on November 16, 1958, in Monroe, Indiana, to the late Christian R. and Elma E. (Hilty) Schwartz. John married Adeline L. Wickey on May 11, 1980.
John was a member of the Old Order Amish.
He was a lifelong farmer and raised ducks commercially.
John is survived by his wife, Adeline L. Schwartz of Monroe, Indiana; son, John A. (Melinda) Schwartz of Monroe, Indiana; daughter, Laura A. (Menno) Schwartz of Monroe, Indiana; son, Chris A. (Emma) Schwartz of Decatur, Indiana; daughter, Annie A. (Joe) Schwartz of Monroe, Indiana; daughter, Lisa A. (Enos) Schwartz of Decatur, Indiana; daughter, Elma A. (Walter) Schwartz of Decatur, Indiana; son, Henry A. (Fannie) Schwartz of Monroe, Indiana; daughter, Lucy A. (Ernest) Schwartz of Monroe, Indiana; son, Marcus A. (Elizabeth) Schwartz of Decatur, Indiana; son, David A. (Lydia) Schwartz of Shipshewana, Indiana; son, Daniel A. (Ruth) Schwartz of St. Joe, Indiana; son, Jonathan A. Schwartz of Monroe, Indiana; son, Samuel A. (Rebecca) Schwartz of Flemingsburg, Kentucky; son, Levi A. (Melinda) Schwartz of Berne, Indiana; son, Joseph A. (Liz) Schwartz of Berne, Indiana; sister, Emma E. (Emmanuel) Girod of New Haven, Indiana; sister, Elma E. Schwartz of Monroe, Indiana; brother, Daniel E. (Sovilla) Schwartz of Moorland, Indiana; brother, Sam E. (Edna) Schwartz of Monroe, Indiana; brother-in-law, Mark J. Girod; 72 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by four grandchildren, Emmanuel L. Schwartz, Lisa L. Schwartz, Chris E. Schwartz, and Japheth Lamar Schwartz; and two sisters, Anne E. Girod and Rosie E. Schwartz.
A funeral service will be held at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, January 10, 2026, at the John E. Schwartz Residence, 1717 East 100 South, Monroe, Indiana, with Bishop Nathan Girod officiating. Burial will follow at Winchester Cemetery in rural Monroe, Indiana.
Visitation will be held from 12:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, January 8, 2026, and from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, January 9, 2026, at the John E. Schwartz Residence.
