John was born September 15, 1943, in Hayward, CA, to John Joseph Selaya Sr. and Lydia Ann (Thomas) Selaya.
John loved serving God, family, and country. In 1967, he accepted the Lord as his Savior while watching a Billy Graham Crusade. From there on, he has been serving the Lord at Church. He served in the choir, bus ministry as a leader, Sunday school teacher, or wherever he was needed. He served as a deacon for 46 years at Hilltop Baptist Church in Colorado Springs, CO.
John joined the United States Air Force when he was 18 year old and served for over 20 years. After his military service he taught at Hilltop Baptist School for 28 years.
He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Frances Selaya; children, Marcella (Steve) Dockins, Steven Selaya, David (Christina) Selaya, Denise (Mike) Kakarian; nine grandchildren, Savannah (Nick), Josh (Morgan), Jennifer, Jessica, Myla (McKay), Jimmy, Madilyn, Natalie, and Kaleb; four great grandchildren, Braylyn, Iris, Dax and Dennis; sister, Linda Selaya.
John was a loving husband, devoted father, cherished grandfather and great grandfather. He was a loyal friend to his church family and will be missed.

Have lots of fond memories of history classes. And I still quote him. Definitely a teacher that made a lasting impression on so many students.

Mr. Seleya was a wonderful Christian. He taught my boys at Hilltop Baptist. He reinforced values of God and country in his classes. May God be with the family as they go through the grief journey.

The RAO is staffed by volunteers, all military retirees themselves, and our sole purpose is to provide assistance to any military retirees and surviving spouses/family members with anything related to their military service and/or benefits, in particular during difficult times such as this.
