John "Johnny" Boland Shields age 71, of Scotland Neck, passed away on July 30, 2022 at his residence.
He was born on February 26, 1951 to James and Frances Shields. Johnny graduated from Scotland Neck High School and NC State University with a degree in agriculture and was a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity. He was one of the best there ever was, great man, father, grandfather, fiancé to Susan Kelly, brother, friend, farmer, commercial fisherman, hunter, trapper, the list goes on and on. He was a member of Clark Gun Club, Shields Commissary Hunting Club and Old Church Hunting Club. Johnny loved spending time on the NC coast especially Hatteras Island and Oriental. He was part owner of The Trawl Door Restaurant located in Oriental, NC.
Johnny was preceded in death by mother, Frances Boland Shields, father, James Griffin Shields, Jr. stepmother, Margaret Boland Shields and son, Jarett Wayne Shields.
Johnny is survived by his son, Matthew Evan Shields of Scotland Neck; his granddaughter, Sloane Amelia Shields; long time partner and fiancé Susan Kelly and her sons, Ryan Harrison Kelly, Tyler Scott Kelly and Dylan Quinn Kelly; his brother, Jimmy Shields and his wife Carol of Scotland Neck; his niece, Brandy Martin and her husband Buck and their children Coby, Carter and Cloei.
The family will receive friends at the home of Matt Shields throughout the week.
Graveside memorial services will be held on Saturday, August 6, 2022 at 11:00 am at the Baptist Cemetery in Scotland Neck.
