On the morning of Friday, October 17th, John J. Shingledecker won. He took his final breath in peace and without pain in the house that he built. He spent his final week surrounded by family and friends in his home before he gained the everlasting embrace of a loving God.

Born Nov. 1, 1942, in New Castle, PA, he was the son of the late Clair "John" and Ethel M. (Eakin) Shingledecker.

On Sept. 2, 1961, he married the former Nancy A. Twentier. Mrs. Shingledecker preceded her husband in death on Oct. 5, 2011.

John was a 1960 graduate of Ne-Ca-Hi. He faithfully served in the 8th Division (Airborne) and the 5th Infantry Division of the United States Army, from 1961-1964. After returning to the states, John became the owner and operator of McCann's Sanitary Service from 1978-2018 where he worked tirelessly displaying a very strong work ethic.

He was a member of the Laurel Lion's Club, the American Legion, and the Mahoning Blue Lodge. John was an animal lover and enjoyed caring for horses, farming, and participating in Civil War reenactments. He was an avid sports fan. What gave him the most joy in life, was his family. He will always be remembered for his devotion to them.

Survivors include his three daughters, Brenda Lubich, Dr. Debra Shingledecker, and Jodi Baker, all of New Castle, PA; one son, MAJ. Kurtis J. Shingledecker (Allicia) of Coalport, PA; and seven grandchildren; Amanda and Kellee Lubich, Jacquelynne
