John Shuck Obituary

Published by Legacy on Dec. 10, 2025.
John M. Shuck, 77, passed away December 7th, 2025, at his home in Alzada, MT. of natural causes.

John was born July 8th, 1948, in Hot Springs, SD to Leonard & Jeanne Shuck. He grew up in Newcastle, Wy with his parents, sister Sharon, and brother Robert. He also spent time with the Sedgwick and Baldwin families in Newcastle. John spent most of his younger years attending school in Newcastle. He graduated from Wheatland High School in Wheatland, WY. in 1966. John was continually active in rodeo and was the Wyoming All Around cowboy in 1966. He qualified for the National High School rodeo that summer in the bareback and bull riding events but was unable to attend due to injuries sustained in an accident. He earned rodeo scholarships to Northwestern Community College in Powell, WY and Casper College in Casper, WY. After college, John worked on various ranches around the area which he loved equally as rodeoing. He met Jeannine Wood in high school in Newcastle. They married on his birthday in 1969, only because there was not a rodeo that day, so it could fit in with his schedule. After they were married, John worked on the LAK Ranch in Newcastle. They welcomed their twin sons Grady & JD home in 1970 and their daughter Johnna in 1974. The family moved to Colony, Wy in 1977 where John worked for Thorval & Janet Jensen. In 1987 the family moved to Caldwell, ID where John worked for Simplot Feedlot. John & Jeannine moved back to Wyoming in 1994 where they continued to ranch and were involved with a cowboy ministry. Most recently he worked for close friends Roger & Bonnie Ballou at their ranch in Alzada, MT.

John loved the Lord, his family, rodeo, western life, and occasionally a Coors light. He loved being on whatever ranch he worked in the company of cattle, horses and his two sons working alongside. He was a very hardworking and witty man, always cracking some kind of joke that made his family and friends laugh. One of his greatest joys was attending local rodeos, specifically the Black Hills Roundup in Belle Fourche SD. Every year he looked forward to attending every performance of the Roundup alongside family and friends. John recently learned of a daughter he had prior to his marriage and was looking forward to getting to know her better. He enjoyed spending time with his family and especially loved and bragged about his grandsons to anyone who would listen.

John is missed by his children, Grady Shuck of Shakopee, MN; J.D. Shuck (Kirsten Potter) of Spearfish SD; Johnna (Travis) Ladson of Spearfish SD. and Cynthia (Clayton) Lauth of Mendon, OH. Grandsons, Slade Ladson and Gaige Ladson of Spearfish SD; sister, Sharon Smith of Moorcroft, WY; sister-in-law, Ardith Beveridge of Spearfish, SD.; niece, Cristin Telma Parrish of Durham, NC; nephew B.J. Telma of Spearfish SD.; special friends that were more like family, Roger & Bonnie Ballou of Hulett, WY., Jeremy & Tiffany Parks of Hyannis, NE and Ann & Lenny Sedgwick of Newcastle, WY.; and numerous family & friends.

Welcoming John in Heaven is his wife of 55 years, Jeannine Shuck; parents, Leonard & Jeanne Shuck, brother Robert Shuck, and numerous family & friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held tentatively in July 2026.
