JOHN ALLEN SKIPPER
HEADLAND… John Allen Skipper, a resident of Headland, Alabama, passed away early Sunday morning, June 9, 2024, at a Dothan hospital. He was 77.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, June 12, 2024, at Headland Methodist Church with Reverend Misty Barrett and Reverend Clayton Lassiter officiating. Burial will follow at New Zion Freewill Baptist Church with Reverend Joey Pettis officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. Tuesday evening at Wright Funeral Home & Crematory. Wright Funeral Home & Crematory is in charge of the arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, the family request contributions be made to the Headland Methodist Church Building Fund, 103 West King Street, Headland, Alabama 36345.
Mr. Skipper was born in Grimes, Alabama to the late Henry Clope “H.C.” Skipper, Jr. and Mavis Merline Clark Skipper. He was a 1965 graduate of Headland High School, where he excelled in track. His senior year, he tied the state record for the one-mile run, which was 4 minutes and 30 seconds. After high school he graduated from Troy State University in 1969 with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree. He retired after thirty years of service as a Nuclear Specialist for Plant Modification Department with many different responsibilities at Farley Nuclear Plant. He enjoyed coaching the “Yankees” in boys Dixie Youth Baseball in Headland, Alabama. He was very instrumental in girls’ softball being brought to the City of Headland and was the coach of the “Babes”. John was a member of the Headland Methodist Church, where he served on several committees.
Along with his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brother, Jimmy Skipper; and his father-in-law, L.J. Hardy.
Leaving to cherish his memories are his wife of fifty-six years, Judy Hardy Skipper; his daughters, Jill Skipper Albert (Todd) and Janie Skipper Hutto (Thomas); his son, Jay Henry Skipper (Jamie Lee); his brother, Joe Skipper; his mother-in-law, Dot Shelley Hardy; his grandchildren; Emalie Caroline Albert (Austin Brewer), Easton James Albert, Caroline Ivey Hutto, and Carson Skipper Hutto; his brothers-in-law, Kyle Hardy (Dianne) and Jerry Hardy (Colleen); his sister-in-law, Zelda Oates (Wyatt); and his several nieces and nephews.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Todd Albert, Thomas Hutto, Easton Albert, Carson Hutto, Michael Skipper, Mark Skipper, Josh Oates, and Jarrod Oates. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be J.D. Sadler, Bush Cooper, Larry Dean, Wayne Pond, Sid Brannon, Dr. Pat Davis, Billy Wayne Hamm, Rex Yance, and former co-workers at Farley Nuclear Plant.
