John Sloan Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Cavanagh-Patterson Family Funeral Home - Media on Mar. 20, 2026.
John Neumann Sloan, 48, of Media, died on March 17, 2026 following a brief illness. Born on February 1, 1978, John was the youngest of four children of Eileen M. Sloan and the late Peter W. Sloan. He is survived by his loving family, also of Media, PA, including his devoted mother, Eileen; his sisters Christine (husband Kevin Monteleone) and Diane (husband Michael Thase); his two nieces, Charlotte and Carly Thase; one nephew, Austin Monteleone; and numerous extended family members and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Peter W, and his brother Peter James.

John was a graduate of Malvern Preparatory High School and attended Fordham University. He spent his career working in the automobile tag and title services industry, operating the Thorndale branch of Kyle's Auto Tags, owned by his business partner and best friend, Kyle Smith of West Chester. John was a kind, generous, and caring man who loved to spend time with family and friends. He was a famously thoughtful gift giver, who loved to compete with family to bestow the gift deemed the "biggest hit" of the day at holidays. He especially loved gifting things that were experiences, leading to many cherished memories with family and friends attending local theater, comedy shows, sporting events, and other unique excursions. He was a devoted fan of Philadelphia area sports teams and was almost never without his Phillies ball cap or Eagles jersey. John loved to travel, read, study history - particularly the American Revolution and the US Presidents -and he collected sports and movie memorabilia, proudly showcased in his well-appointed home that he took great care to decorate and continuously improve over the years. He had a preternatural knowledge of Seinfeld facts/quotes and a large collection of novelty t-shirts from his favorite movies and television shows. Like his beloved mother, he could always be counted on to show up in a unique and hilarious costume for Halloween or theme parties. On his days off and weekends, he would most likely be found rooting for his nieces playing for Strath Haven volleyball, softball, or soccer or his nephew playing soccer and now running track for Springton Lake. As a proud uncle, he was their biggest fan and did his best to attend every event or to at least hear all about it afterward. He will be deeply missed by family and friends.

A viewing will be held on Monday, March 23, 2026 at 9:30am followed by a funeral Mass at 10:30am at Nativity BVM, 30 E Franklin St, Media, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Tanzania Education Fund (https://www.tanzaniaeducation.org/donate/), a non-profit dedicated to sustaining the development and success of the Margery Wolf Kuhn Preschool, Primary, Secondary Schools in Bagamoyo, Tanzania (founded in 1999 by members of the Sloan family).
