John "JJ" Smith

John J. 'JJ' Smith, 89, of Kingston, NY and formerly of Hyde Park, NY where he lived for 10 years, passed away on Tuesday, September 26, 2023 at HealthAlliance Hospital - Mary's Ave Campus in Kingston, NY. He was born on March 10, 1934 in Kingston, NY, son of the late Harold and Carrie (Carlson) Smith. He attended Kingston High School and served his country in the US Army during the Korean Conflict, where he received several commendations. JJ later work for IBM in Kingston for 36 years, retiring in 1992. He was a member of the American Legion Post #150, Kiwanis Club, the IBM Quarter Century Club, and was on the Board of the IBM Recreation Committee. He enjoyed woodworking and was known as an avid handyman. JJ is survived by his children, Jonathan J. Smith (John) of Rosendale and Carol Ann Smith (Steve) of Kingston, his grandchildren, Travis M. Smith of Tampa, FL and Roxanne A. Smith of Kingston, as well as three great grandchildren. In addition to his parents his is predeceased by his son, Harold E. Smith, and his brother, Ernest G. Smith. Family and friends may visit on Monday, October 2, 2023 from 10am to 11am at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 104 Wurts St., Kingston, NY 12401, with the funeral service following at 11am.
