John Smith Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Bolton Funeral Home - Columbiana on Mar. 13, 2026.
John David Smith, 55, of Wilsonville, Alabama entered eternal rest on Wednesday. March 11, 2026, after a lengthy illness. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM at Wilsonville Baptist Church. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM with Rev. Steve Thomas presiding. He will be laid to rest in Wilsonville City Cemetery.

David was born in Shelby County, Alabama on February 25th, 1971. He was the first born of loving parents Joe Franklin and Juanita Ann Smith. He spent most of his life in Wilsonville and never lived more than 30 miles from his childhood home. He was exceptionally proud of his local community and his deep roots there.

David was a lifelong Member of Wilsonville Baptist Church and was an active participant in Sadie Smith Sunday School and various Bible study classes. He was a 1989 graduate of Shelby County High School where he played center on the varsity basketball team. He was employed at United Parcel Service for 24 years, where he was known affectionately by his CB radio handle "Gear Jammer". David remained close to his childhood friends and co-workers throughout his life.

David had a passion for Alabama football, vintage Ford Mustangs and current events. More than anything, he loved to talk. He was an entertaining storyteller with an impeccable memory. David was genuinely fascinated by other people and their individual stories. He was an excellent listener. He was forever bragging about the accomplishments of his children Camryn and Tyler. His wit and sarcasm will be missed.

Mr. Smith is preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Ann Smith. He is survived by his children, Camryn Smith Fuqua (Judd) and John Tyler; and brother, Justin Wade (Joy Ruth).
