John Byron Smyth passed away on Monday, September 22, 2025 in Silver Spring, Maryland just 3 days shy of his 88th birthday.

Born September 25, 1937 in Brooklyn, NY, John was the only child of Yvonne and Willam (Bill) Smyth. He was raised in NY and was active duty in the Air Force. He and his first wife, Maureen (Gill) raised 5 children as they moved from Tennessee to Clinton, MD. He enjoyed his lifelong career in pharmacy and eventually retired with his beloved (3rd) wife, Marie, to Hertford, NC before eventually moving back to Maryland to live at the Riderwood Senior Living Community. Dad enjoyed attending Catholic services in the chapel, taking care of his beautiful garden and walking his cherished dog, Yoda.

John is survived by his wife, Marie, children, John E. (Leslie), Scott, Michelle (TJ), Renee (Paul) and Nichole (Mike) and grandchildren, Jessica & Rebecca (Smyth), Mac & Sydney (McDermott), Isabella, Catalina, Mare & Paul (Lennon), and Meghan and Michael (Henderson).

A viewing for relatives and friends will be held on Sunday, September 28th from 12:00pm – 4:00pm at the Donaldson Funeral Home of Clarksville, P.A., 12540 Clarksville Pike, Clarksville, MD 21029. All are welcome to John's funeral mass which will be held on September 29th at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 8300 Old Columbia Rd, Fulton, MD 20759. Interment at Resurrection Cemetery, 8000 Woodyard Rd, Clinton, MD 20735, will follow at 1:30pm.
