John Bernard "Ben" Snipes, a pillar of strength and a beacon of faith, passed away peacefully on November 23, 2025, in Dublin, GA. Born on August 23, 1943, in Americus, GA, to Bernard Alfonso Snipes and Carolyn Athon Snipes, both of whom predeceased him, Ben's life was a testament to hard work, loyalty, love, and service.

Ben, a lifelong resident of Georgia, was a proud graduate of Dublin High School, class of 1961. As a young man, he distinguished himself on the football field, leading his team to state championships and earning the title of State Lineman of the Year in 1960. His prowess on the field earned him a coveted scholarship to play for the University of Georgia football team, an opportunity ended too soon by a knee injury. Undeterred, Ben channeled his passion for sports into baseball while pursuing his studies at the University of Georgia. There, he laid the cornerstone of an impactful career, graduating with a bachelor's degree, later adding master's and specialist degrees from Georgia College and UGA, respectively.

In the sphere of education and athletics, Ben's name became synonymous with dedication and success. He coached both football and baseball for over four decades across the public and private sectors, where he inspired countless young athletes and led them to numerous state championships. His influence on the field was only matched by his commitment to developing the character and potential of his players.

Upon his retirement, Ben did not rest his laurels; instead, he continued to tend to his beloved farm, raising cattle and nurturing the land he so loved. His connection to the earth further exemplified his grounded nature and tireless work ethic.

Ben' s faith was a cornerstone of his life, lovingly intertwined with every aspect of his existence. An active and devout member of the Dublin First Methodist Church, he served his congregation for over twenty-five years, as Sunday School Superintendent. His influence and steadfast faith touched the lives of many within the church community and beyond.

Ben married the love of his life, Jennifer Joiner Snipes, and together they shared a beautiful journey of 59 years. Their bond of love and companionship formed the nucleus of a family that grew to include his sons, Daniel Brent Snipes (Lori) of Statesboro, and Chandler Brian Snipes (Julie) of Marietta; his adored grandchildren, Caroline, Carter, Carson, and Casey Snipes. Ben is also survived by his brother, Earl Snipes (Terri) of Dublin; as well as nieces Brandi Cox (Patrick), Cynthia Mickler (Bryce), and Sandy Snipes.

Ben's zest for life extended beyond his professional and family roles-he was an avid outdoorsman, who enjoyed hunting, fishing, and fellowship with friends.

Funeral services will be held at 3 PM on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, at Dublin First Methodist Church. Rev. David Thompson will officiate. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 1 PM until the service time at the church. Burial will follow at Dublin Memorial Gardens.

Carter Snipes, Carson Snipes, Casey Snipes, Conner Kwasigroh, Michael Price, Jimmy Touchberry, John Martin, and Kip Dominy will serve as pallbearers. Former players and fellow coaches will serve as honorary pallbearers.
