John Spittal, son of Hugh Simpson Spittal and Teresa McCloskey, graduated from Bloomfield High School before proudly serving in the Army infantry during WWII. After the war, he married Florence Dillman and purchased his first dairy farm in Cheshire, NY, where many of his fondest memories were made during the early years of their marriage as they welcomed three daughters and a son. In 1958, the family moved to their current farm on Brace Road in Victor. John continued dairy farming until 1968, when he joined the Rochester Laborers Union, working there until his retirement in 1991. A natural caretaker, John tenderly supported his beloved wife Florence during her battle with emphysema in the early years of his retirement. Together, they traveled across the United States in their motorhome, visiting family in Florida and Arizona, and returning to the family farm every spring and summer. Their devotion to friends and family was evident in this lifestyle, and they lived fully until Florence's passing in 2001. John maintained his snow-bird lifestyle for the next couple of decades, spending summers on the farm, where he continued to work and supervise projects within the Spittal subdivision, home to his daughters, grandson, and great-grandchildren. His greatest joy was watching and helping his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren grow and thrive. His unwavering support and love have profoundly shaped three generations. John's family is deeply grateful for his love and support. He will be dearly missed.
Family and friends are invited to call on TUESDAY, July 23, from 4-7PM at Miller Funeral and Cremation Services of Victor (301 West Main Street). His funeral service will be held WEDNESDAY, July 24, at 10AM at the funeral home. Interment Boughton Hill Cemetery. Donations may be made in his memory to a charity of one's choice.
