Good evening from Barcelona.
Wish you are doing well.
Today I have gotten the sad news regarding the Dr.
I was ones patient of Dr. John Stakes in fall 2010.
We flew to Boston to visit him at MGH and had few visits at his place there.
He always listened carefully and with extraordinary empathy to my case.
My wife Blanca and I will always remember him and we we would like to express our deepth sympathy to the family.
Best regards.

I attended medical school with John back when dinossaurs roamed the earth and I will always remember him for his calm and gentle spirit-even during Neurology rounds with Dr. Fred Plum- always centered and supportive of his classmates- rest in peace- I was honored to know you.

I was saddened to learn of Dr Stakes' passing. He cared for my mother with Parkinsons' for 10 years. He was so empathic, and treated her with such dignity and caring. It was always a treat for her to see him, as he was so kind and empowering. Yet, he was always very honest clinically with her and her family. My husband, who is a surgeon at Mass Eye and Ear, and I referred several patients to Dr. Stakes, as we thought he was the best there was. Our condolences go out to his family, as he was surely as wonderful a husband and father as he was a physician.
Sincerely, Susan Reardon

Elegant, witty, wry- HARDLY traits of the average HighSchooler- but that was John, & he was loved & respected for it. At the PHS 50th we were so saddened to hear of his illness, & now, of his loss. "A Gentleman & a Scholar'- the best they come. My condolences to all who held him dear.

I was one of Dr. Stake's residents on the MGH neurology stroke service. One day after I counseled a patient who was having trouble understanding his stroke, Dr. Stakes pulled me aside and said, "you are absolutely in the right profession". I don't know how many times I have thought back to that moment as I have dealt with the challenges and self doubt that comes with being a physician. It has given me strength to continue and has reminded me to be true to myself.
I am so sorry for your loss, but please know that Dr. Stakes continues to inspire the physicians he trained and I will be forever grateful to him.
My sincerest condolences for the loss of this great man.

Dear Kate, Marina and John:
It was a privilege of a lifetime to have been Dr. Stakes' Sleep Disorders fellow at the MGH, and to have worked under his guided hand in the Sleep Division that he founded several decades ago
To me, Dr. Stakes was my reason for being where I am today.
I was so proud to have worked with him for these many years, and my heart is all the more aching at a loss that can never really ever be replaced.
He was a truly unique man, so unbelievably knowledgeable about his craft, and so incredibly kind and caring to all of his patients, and to all who had the enviable experience to have worked with him over at the MGH.
He was the ultimate conversationalist, and invariably the conversation would shift to his wonderful wife, and the two apples of his eye.
May Dr. Stakes' soul be bound up in the Bonds of Eternal Life, and may his memory ever be for blessing.
May Dr. Stakes now rest in Eternal Repose.
In aching heartfelt sorrow, - Ken Sassower.

Dear Kate, Marina and John:
We never had the opportunity to meet Dr. Stakes but he lives in our hearts through John who told us about his father and we have felt the great love he had for his father. We have read the great accomplishments of Dr. Stakes and wish that we had been able to meet him.
Our condolences and sympathy to you. We hope that you find comfort in the knowledge that Dr. Stakes will always be beside you to support and guide you.
