John L. Stetler

John L. "Jack" Stetler, 81, passed away Wednesday, March 11, 2009 at Bethlehem Woods Rehab Center in Fort Wayne. Born in Fremont, IN, he was a Patrolman with the Fort Wayne Police Department for 20 years, retiring in 1969. Last surviving member of the First Police Academy graduating class known as the "Sweet Sixteen". He was a U.S. Army Air Corp. veteran and was a member of Calvary Third United Presbyterian Church. Survivors include his wife of 61 years Anna Lee Stetler of Fort Wayne; son, Keith Stetler of Spencerville, IN; daughter, Karen (Tim) Grube of Corunna, IN; 7 grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren and 1 step-great grandchild; son-in-law, Lee Hapner. He is preceded in death by daughter, Janet Hapner; brothers, Dick, Dean & Bob Stetler; step-brother, Raymond Griesley and step-sister, Joan Van Den Assem. Service is 1 p.m. Monday at D.O. McComb & Sons Pine Valley Park Funeral Home, 1320 E. Dupont Rd. with calling 1 hour prior. Rev. Joe Fields officiating. Calling also 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial in Covington Memorial Gardens. Memorials to Calvary Third Presbyterian Church or F.O.P.
