John Stremick Obituary

John (Hook) M. Stremick, 76, of Mary-D, Pennsylvania, passed away suddenly on Monday, November 10, 2025. He died doing what he loved, shortly after a successful hunt at the Moss Glen Rod and Gun Club, where he took an 8-point buck.

Born in Pottsville on Thursday, February 10, 1949, John was the son of the late Martha (Lincovich) Haffey. A proud resident of the Tamaqua area his entire life, he attended Tamaqua Area Schools and was Catholic by faith. A tireless union worker and skilled pipe layer, John retired after many dedicated years of service from James D. Morrissey, Inc. He was a member of Local union 158 Harrisburg and Local union 57 Philadelphia.

John was a true outdoorsman whose passions defined his life. He was a dedicated charter member of the Moss Glen Rod and Gun Club and member of Lone Pine Sportsman’s Club. John had great love for animals and will be desperately missed by his dogs Chica and Cheddar. He raised many prized beagles and loved training them. His most recent project, raising heritage breed turkeys—including Bourbon Reds, Osceolas, Royal Palms, and Blue Slates—began as his hobby and quickly became a shared family endeavor, involving everything from incubating eggs in the basement to daily feedings at the club.

Above all, John cherished his role as "Pop-Pop." He found immense joy in attending his granddaughter Abby’s softball games and school events, and she adored him in return.

He is lovingly remembered by his wife of 53 years, Nelle (Kotula) Stremick; daughters, Natalie A. Stremick and her companion Tim Titus, and Nikki M. Tewksbury and her husband Jonathan; his adored granddaughter Abby (who he affectionately called Tootser); nieces, Margaret Bensinger and her husband David, Patrice Yasenchock; and nephews, Robert Stremick and his wife Marina, Michael Yasenchock, and Anthony Kotula and his husband Jonathan Meade.

John was preceded in death by his mother, Martha (Lincovich) Haffey; his stepfather, Frank Haffey; and his brothers, Robert J. "Coalie" Stremick and Charles Stremick.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the E. Franklin Griffiths Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc. 655 East Broad Street Tamaqua, Pennsylvania 18252. (570) 668-2550

A Celebration of John's Life will be held on Friday November 21, 2025 at 11 o'clock A.M. Friends and family may call at the funeral home from 9:30 A.M. until the time of services.

Interment will be in St. Bertha's Cemetery, Tuscarora, Pennsylvania.
