John Suleski Obituary

John Suleski, Jr.

11/29/1935 - 11/19/2025

John Suleski Jr., of Maumee, OH, born November 29, 1935, husband to Shirley, father to her five beautiful children, and grandfather to 13 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren, passed peacefully and gloriously into the arms of the Lord on November 19, 2025. Family was the heartbeat of John's life. His 13 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren were his pride and joy. He delighted in watching each generation grow, celebrating their milestones, and filling gatherings with his laughter and gentle presence.

John was born and raised in Monclova, Ohio, where he grew up surrounded by faith, family, and the values that would guide him throughout his life. He was a proud lifetime member of St. Joseph's Parish in Maumee, a place that nurtured his spiritual foundation and reflected his quiet but unwavering devotion.

At just 17 years old, John began his career with the City of Maumee-a commitment that would span an astounding 37 years. Through dedication, perseverance, and strong leadership, he rose through the ranks and ultimately retired as Superintendent. After retiring from the city, he shifted his full attention back to the business he had built on his own since 1971. As a self-employed businessman, John operated with integrity, hard work, and the belief that every job should be done right.

Known for his humor and unmistakable quick wit, John had a great-natured spirit that made people feel instantly comfortable. He had a way of lighting up a room, offering the perfect remark to break tension or spark laughter. His warmth was effortless and his presence unforgettable.

John lived a fulfilling life enriched by the hobbies and passions he cherished. He was an avid bowler, a talented woodworker, a lifelong Detroit Tigers fan, and a lover of golf. Some of his favorite memories were made during his trips to Florida, where sunshine, relaxation, and joy seemed to follow him naturally.

John was the beloved father of five children, Crystal (Greg) Bowman, Julie (Steve) Pilcher, Lori (Tim) Womack, Kelly (Gary) Olson, and his son, Mike Suleski. To each of them, he was a steady anchor-offering guidance, comfort, and a love that never wavered. His children were among his proudest accomplishments.

He was preceded in passing by the love of his life, Shirley Ogden; father, John Suleski Sr.; mother, Inez Suleski; and his wife, Janet Suleski, of 30 years; sisters, Frances Lee, Millie Lambert. Survived by sister, Mary Russell; and brother, David (Judy) Suleski; sister, Rose Mininger.

Visitation will be held on Monday, November 24, 2025, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., in the Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home, 501 Conant St., Maumee, Ohio. A funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., at Saint Joseph Catholic Church, 104 W. Broadway St., Maumee, Ohio. Burial will follow at Saint Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Maumee. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be directed to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

John leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, kindness, and faith. His life was one marked by service, devotion, and the simple but profound impact of a man who loved deeply and lived generously. Though he is no longer physically with us, the lessons he taught and the love he shared will continue to echo through the lives of all who knew him. And in honor of the way he lived-joyfully and wholeheartedly-we end with his favorite saying: "If you can't have fun, don't."
