Born on June 8, 1942, to the late Elex Tarkington and Ruth Dread Tarkington, John lived a
life defined by love, hard work, and unwavering dedication to his family and community. A man
of quiet strength and strong character, John was always ready to lend a helping hand to those in
need.
John married Jean "Pearl" Green, and from their union came three beloved children: Michael
Wayne Tarkington, John Wayne Tarkington, and Kim Yvette Tarkington. He provided for
his family with pride and commitment, working for over 30 years with Arkla-Mud Company,
where he was known for his work ethic and dependability.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Jean Pearl Tarkington, parents, Elex and Ruth Tarkington, and his siblings: Lavern
Brown, Alvern, Jerry "Helen" McCree, Dorothy Foster, Ervell, Elvis, Elbert Hubert, J.C.
Herbert, Billy, and Lorenzo Tarkington.
John leaves to cherish his memory: His three devoted children:
Michael Wayne Tarkington (Lisia) of Mansfield, TX,
John Wayne Tarkington (Dionne) of Knoxville, TN, and
Kim Yvette Tarkington of Magnolia, AR. His grandchildren: Phillip Tarkington, Ashia Smith (Davonte), Desmond Tarkington
(Lizet) His great-grandchildren: Marcelo Tarkington and Arayla Lou-Pearl Smith His beloved sister: Erma Hanson of Dallas, TX Sister in-Law Lillian Tarkington of Dallas, TX
A host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.
Mr. John will be remembered fondly for his deep love of hunting, fishing, repairing flat tires, and
working on automobiles-hobbies that brought him joy and connected him to many. Known as
'Mr. AT&T,' he could tell you exactly when you last called his home-right down to the minute.

"In lieu of flowers, the family has established the John L. Tarkington Memorial Fund for his
great-grandchildren. Donations will support the future of his beloved great-grandchildren and

Though he may be gone from our sight, John L. Tarkington will never be gone from our hearts.
His legacy of kindness, strength, and love lives on through all who knew and loved him.
