John D. Teehan, 56, passed away at Rhode Island Hospital on Thursday, February 23, 2023, with his beloved wife of 15 years, Margaret B. Teehan (Froiseth), at his side.
John was born in Boston, MA, and was the eldest son of the late John D. and Nancy (Holt) Teehan. John was raised in Westerly and was a 1985 graduate of Westerly High School. He attended Rhode Island College to study English and pursue his love of writing. John was able to use this passion to found the Merry Blacksmith Press, publishing numerous science fiction, fantasy, graphic and other novels. John also worked as a freelance content writer.
John was an active member of his community. He participated in a weekly Dungeons and Dragons game at the West Warwick Public Library. He had previously participated in regular Irish music sessions and was active in the writing community. John touched people in all walks of life with his humor, kindness, and generous spirit. He was engaging and funny, and he cared for all with whom he came into contact.
John and Margaret married in 2007 and had a son, Jack, the light of John's life, in 2016. John was a devoted father and husband, working tirelessly to ensure his family had a happy life. One of his favorite things was to watch Jack learn and grow and find opportunities to play either at the library play group or the Biomes, or just engaging Jack on the backyard swing set.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his son, John Eric Reilly Teehan (Jack) of West Warwick, and two brothers, Andrew and Timothy Teehan, both of Westerly.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend John's Funeral Service on Saturday, March 4, 2023, at 11:00 am in the Emanuel Lutheran Church, 20 Leaf Street, West Warwick, RI. Visiting hours will be held on Friday evening, March 3, 2023, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm in the Carpenter-Jenks Funeral Home, 659 East Greenwich Avenue, West Warwick, RI. In lieu of flowers, please consider sending donations to the West Warwick Public Library (1043 Main Street, West Warwick, RI 02893).

John and I would often go to BeeBee's in downtown Westerly to have coffee and talk about everything and anything. Once in High School, we took the train together to Boston and had our share of Heienkens on the way home - a day to remember exploring the city of Boston, subways, the combat zone - John was fun to hang out with .
