John Thompson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Burroughs Funeral Home - Bennettsville on Aug. 7, 2024.
Bennettsville, SC
John F Thompson, age 98, passed away on August 4, 2024, after a brief illness.
Mr. Thompson was born in Marlboro County to loving parents, John Frank and Florence McLean Thompson. He attended Marlboro County schools having graduated from Fletcher High School. In 1945, John married the love of his life, Luna Hayes. Together, they operated Breeden Grocery until their retirement. Mr. Thompson enjoyed working in his rose garden and loved sharing beautiful arrays with friends and neighbors. He could always find time to take a fishing trip with several of his dear friends. His happiest times were spent with his family, especially his two grandsons, who happened to be his pride and joy, and the apple of his eye.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Thompson was preceded in death by his loving wife of sixty-five years, Luna Hayes Thompson; sisters, Clara Newhouse and Dorothy Thompson; and a brother, Eugene Thompson.
Mr. Thompson leaves behind to cherish his memory, a daughter, Shirley Stone; a grandson, Cam Stone (Cindy); a great grandson Hayden Stone; a sister, Marjorie Rowe; a sister-in-law, Magilee Thompson; many nieces, nephews, and several friends; he was especially fond of his canine friend, Jack, who would visit him often.
Mr. Thompson will be laid to rest beside his loving wife at Sunset Memorial Park at a private, family graveside service.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made in Mr. Thompson's memory to Scotia Village 2200 Elm Ave. Laurinburg, NC 28352, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital 501 St Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105, or the Marlboro County Humane Society PO Box 135 Bennettsville, SC 29512.
