John Peter Tolson, 81, of State Center, passed away on Thursday, February 2, 2023 at his home.
Memorial services for John will be held on Friday, February 10, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in State Center. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. also at the church. Memorials may be directed to either the Trinity Lutheran Church in State Center or to the Lutheran Family Services. John Peter Tolson was born on June 23, 1941 in Davenport, Iowa. He was the son of Marvin "Marv" and Alfrieda (Hansen) Tolson. When he was about 4 years old, they moved to Clinton, Iowa. John graduated from Clinton High School in 1959 and then went on to the University of Iowa and obtained his Bachelors of Science degree in Accounting. John was united in marriage to Joan Diesing and they later divorced. He married Marva Van Maanen in December of 2001 at Trinity Lutheran Church in State Center. John had been employed with Maytag as the Director of Investor Relations and retired in 2001. He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, Iowa Business Council and the Lutheran Family Services where he was a board member. John enjoyed golfing at Lincoln Valley and was a voracious reader (mostly fiction).
John is survived by his wife of 21 years, Marva. Children: Scott (Mel) Tolson of Arden Hills, Minnesota, Jim (Nicole) Bergeson of Stilwell, Kansas and John (Julie) Bergeson of Bondurant. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Alec Tolson, Kurt Tolson, Avery Bergeson, Ashley Bergeson, Aubrey Bergeson and Grace Bergeson.
John is preceded in death by his parents, Marv and Alfrieda.
