John Torma Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Ducro Funeral Services and Crematory on May 21, 2024.
John J. Torma, 77, passed away on May 17, 2024, at his home.
He was born in Cleveland, OH on August 6, 1946 the son of John and Grace (Gowday) Torma. After graduating St. John High School in Ashtabula, he went on to graduate in 1969 from the Famous Artists Schools of West Port, Conn. John honorably served our country in the United States Navy. He married the love of his life, Margarete (Miller) Torma on December 7, 1978.
John attended the Pentecostal Church of God. He was a skilled artist and award-winning mural painter, specializing in airbrush paintings and murals. He and his wife owned Torma Studios from 1970, where he sold his works of art. Much of the city of Ashtabula has signs that were created by John, along with countless boats, trucks, and motorcycles.
In his free time, he enjoyed going into old bookstores, art museums and traveling with his wife; and playing with his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Margarete on February 17, 2024, and his granddaughter, Sarah Daniels.
He was survived by his stepchildren, Clinton Rose, Lori Rivers, and Bernadette (Karl) Gumsey; grandchildren, Drake and Maverick Rivers, Jami Rose, Paul Welz, and Amanda (Jimmy) Hodson; and six great-grandchildren, Maraya and Hallie Whitehair, Aaliyah, James, and Jordan Hodson, and Serenity Rose.
A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Pentecostal Church of God, 2201 Cook Rd., Ashtabula, OH 44004.
The Ducro Funeral Services and Crematory are handling arrangements. Online obituary and condolences at www.ducro.com

John Torma was a very important person in our ministry for Christ. He and Margarete were supporters of our His Word Scripture Sign Ministry for years. John is now with Jesus our Lord! God bless him!

John was my younger cousin. I had visited he and his wife several times in Ashtabula and his wife and John’s mother also visited me. I admired his artwork and was very sorry to learn of his passing so soon after losing his wife. May he rest in peace.

John was my brother. We grew up together at 3241 Lake Avenue in Ashtabula.
We were both adopted from Catholic Charities. Me in 1944 , John in '46. I had no contact with him for many years but he was my brother- my only sibling. I pray he did not suffer. May his soul rest in peace.

I´m so sorry for the loss of such a fine talented man. I´ve always admired his artistic tic talent and how he was a fine respectful man. These pics are just a few of the many things he did for me. He touched my heart with his kindness and quiet demeanor. He will be missed by many.
