John Martin Trybula, 65, of Jefferson City, passed away Thursday, January 12, 2023, at Capital Region Medical Center.

He was born February 8, 1957, in St. Louis, the son of Edward Anthony and Dorothy Agnes (Paul) Trybula. John was named after his great-great-grandfather John Martin Paul, who homesteaded in Quincy, Illinois in the 1800’s. 

He was a 1975 graduate of McCluer High School in St. Louis. He received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business from the University of Missouri, St. Louis, and a Master of Economics from Washington University, St. Louis, Missouri. While in school, he was a member of the ROTC.

He started his career in transportation at Emerson Electric and ended his long career as a salesman for Roadway Express.

He was united in marriage to Debra Ann Williams on January 10, 2003, at St. Martin Catholic Church. He was a member of St. Martin Catholic Church Knights of Columbus, which he joined when he was eighteen years old, and a hunting conservationist member of Ducks Unlimited.

John enjoyed all sports including golf, football, basketball, softball, tennis and was a huge St. Louis Cardinal fan.

He enjoyed hunting, especially duck hunting, cooking and was meticulous about his yard.

Survivors include his wife, Debra; three children, Robert (Katrina) Simpson, Milan, Italy; Samantha (Alex) Whitelaw, High Ridge, Missouri; Joshua Smolar (fiancé, Liss Meehan), Bend, Oregon; and two grandchildren, Kaia Whitelaw, and Alexander Whitelaw, IV. He is also survived by four siblings, Joe (Sue) Trybula, O’Fallon Missouri; Edward Jr (Marianne) Trybula, Phoenix, Arizona; Susan (Bob) Kleimann, Englewood, Colorado; and Cynthia (Tom) Lindsley, Vacaville, California.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Services will be held at a later time.

Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.

Sorry for your loss! Makes me sad to hear of Johns passing. John and I were childhood friends from when my family lived in Ferguson Mo. We move away and and lost touch with each other. The picture below is from 1968 when John went to Colorado with my family. There is a picture of both us but could not find it. This picture is from the Royal Gorge bridge. I still have some fond memories from our childhood. Spending the night at his house and the family dog Ceasar I believe was his name but not sure. Running around Ferguson Barat Ave and Godfrey lane. St. John and James school. Again sorry for your loss. John was a great childhood best friend. Mike Daugherty
