John Tuttle Obituary

John William Tuttle, 88, of Greentop, Missouri, passed away peacefully at his home on February 27, 2026, under the care of Hospice following an extended battle with cancer.
John was born in Borger, Texas, on January 9, 1938, to Birt and Mary (Burnett) Tuttle. His family later moved to Brownfield, Texas, where he graduated high school in 1956.
In 1958, John married Bonnie Jean Quick, who survives. Also surviving are his three daughters, Tami Trost (Mike), Timi Heaton (Joe), and Tonya Steele (Russell); seven grandchildren, Kevin Jones (Miriam), Kalvin Jones (Becky), Jarrod Hollenbeck, Ryan Hollenbeck (Samantha), Sierra Kemp (Dahn), Eric Lutz (Kelsey), Brooke Lutz and step-granddaughter, Cheyanne Heaton, 14 great-grandchildren, and one sister, Birdie Littrell. John was proceeded in death by his parents, two sisters, Mary "Leona" Clark and Corina Wood.
While in high school, John was a member of the FFA National Champion meat judging team. During his junior year, he enlisted in the Texas Army National Guard and served 9 years as a tank commander, attaining the rank of Sergeant E7. He was recognized as the top gunner in his tank battalion. After he graduated from high school, John was employed as a communications technician with Southwestern Bell Telephone Company in Midland, Texas. In 1971, he and his family relocated to Greentop, Missouri, where he completed his distinguished career of 42 years with the telephone company, retiring in 1998.
John was proud of his Texas roots and his native American heritage as his paternal grandmother was a member of the Cherokee Indian Tribe. He was a horse enthusiast and was a regular trail rider with Bonnie and his friends, particularly during excursions to Arizona and Eminence, Missouri. John enjoyed sports and loved playing ping pong, softball, and pickleball. He was a highly skilled handyman and could fix virtually anything, often using his ability to critically and creatively analyze problems to solve difficult mechanical and electrical repair challenges.
John was a devoted disciple of Jesus Christ and was an active member of the Assembly of God Church in Kirksville where he served as a deacon for many years.
No funeral service will be held. The family will receive friends on Sunday, March 8, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., at the Greentop Community Center located at Greentop City Park, under the direction of Hudson Rimer Funeral Home of Edina. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Northeast Missouri and sent to Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home, P.O. Box 1, Edina, Missouri, 63537.
