John W. Udell, Jr., a cherished family man and avid outdoorsman, passed away peacefully on October 3, 2025, at the age of 56, at Medilodge of Hillman. Born on October 4, 1968, in Alpena, John's life was marked by his loving nature and the joy he found in the simple pleasures of life.
Hunting and trapping were not just hobbies for John; they were a way of life that allowed him to connect with nature and pass on his knowledge and respect for the wilderness to his family. A man of many interests, John's happiest moments were those spent surrounded by friends and family.
John is survived by his mother Merle, his children, Rebecca (Alan) Freske, John W. Udell III, and Lashondra Udell, his sisters, Sandra (David) Witkowski, Deborah Udell, Judith (Robert) Nowicki, Cindy (Ernest) LaMay, Carol (Jerry) Sayan, and Robin (Mark) Ipock. John's heart swelled with love for his granddaughters, Emmalyn and Bristol Freske, who were the light of his life. He cherished every moment spent with them and embraced his role as a doting grandfather with enthusiasm and tenderness.
Family will receive friends at First United Methodist Church on Saturday, November 1, 2025, from 10 am until the memorial service at 11 am with Rev. Robert Richards officiating. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Michigan Parkinson Foundation. Arrangements are with McWilliams Funeral Home.
