John Verminski Obituary

John A. Verminski, Jr., age 82, of Rome, passed away on November 19, 2025, at Rome Health, after a long battle with cancer.

John was born in Rome on September 25, 1943, to the late John and Frances Galluppi Verminski, and graduated from RFA in 1963. On May 6, 1967, he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Sharon Patenaude. For over 40 years, John worked as a machinist and tractor driver at Revere Copper Products

John was a man of many interests whose quiet passions enriched both his own life and the lives of those around him. He enjoyed building plastic military naval ships. He was an avid sports fan whose favorite teams where the L.A. Dodgers, Rams, and Lakers. John also love Syracuse University basketball and local high school football. He also loved trout fishing with his wife. His love of classic board games was most treasured when shared with his twin brother, a bond that endured throughout their lives. The music of the 1950s and 1960s remained a constant source of comfort and nostalgia, recalling his youthful days as a cross country and track runner in high school where he held many records. Above all, he cherished his family, taking great pride in his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whose presence brought him lasting happiness.

John is survived by his loving wife, Sharon; his daughter, Kelly (Tanay) Miroglu of Rome; his sons, John Verminski III and Robert Verminski both of Rome; his grandsons, John (Jennifer) Hughes and Jeffery (Porshia) Vaughn; six great grandchildren, Shawn, Sophia, and Scarlett Hughes, and Jeffery Jr., Easton, and Olivia Vaughn; his brothers, Joseph (his twin), Francis, and Thomas (Debbie) Verminski; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his loving son, Aaron J.P. Verminski. John will be remembered for his kind and gentle soul that touched the hearts of many.

The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the staff of 2E and 2N at Rome Health and the Slocum Dickson Hematology-Oncology Department for their care and compassion shown to John over the years.

A memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, November 26, at 11 AM at St. Peter's Church. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street.

Yesterday

Johnny, I just found out about your passing and that you were buried today. It really breaks my heart that you´re gone but you will always remain in my heart as I remember fondly when we used to build models together that we bought at the Play Shop (?) on Dominick St with Joe on Saturday morning escapades! I remember more than once when you and Joe chipped in when I didn´t have the money to buy a model!
I will always continue to pray for you, Joe, Tommy and Frankie; RIP!
