John Warren Vernon, 76, passed away on Tuesday November 25, 2025. He was born on December 6, 1948, in St. Louis, MO. to Jean Clapp Vernon and Douglas Warren Vernon. His early years were spent in Webster Groves, MO. In 1957 the family moved to Morrisville, PA.

John graduated from Pennsbury High School class of 1967. He went on to attend Otterbein College in Westerville, Ohio, where he majored in history and sociology. Following his graduation in 1973, John moved to Trenton, NJ.

John had a varied career in social work including: The Boys Club of Trenton, Trenton State Prison (Jones Farm), The Union Industrial Home for Children, Baptist Children's Services of Philadelphia, and Mercer Hospital Adult Day Care Center. John was the caregiver for his family, helping his mother, father, and sister through their final illnesses, and then caring for two of his sister's children until their high school graduations.

Before going blind, John was an avid reader, enjoyed jazz music, sailing, biking and going to the New Jersey shore. John was involved for many years with the New Jersey Commission for the Blind and Handicapped. He especially became active with the Mercer County Council of the Blind where he had good friendships and many interesting experiences. He was president of that organization for eight years. In 2013 John moved to IL to be near his sister and her family. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Wheaton.

John was predeceased by his father, Douglas Vernon; his mother, Jean Vernon; and his sister, Bonnie Vernon.

John is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Janis and Randy Foster; six nieces and nephews: Carrie Brush, Michael (Rebecca) Foster, Todd (Kendra) Foster, Gregg Marsano, Doug (Nichole) Marsano, Meghan (Sean) Yoho; and seventeen great nieces and nephews.

The family is especially thankful for the good care John received at Churchill Memory Care. A private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations in John's memory to Churchill Place Memory Care, 190 Geneva Rd, Glen Ellyn, IL 60137.
