John Daniel VerSluis aged (89) passed away peacefully with his family at his bedside on September 26, 2024. John was born and raised in Kalamazoo where he lived his entire life. He attended Kalamazoo Central High School and graduated in 1952. Shortly after graduating he met and fell in love with his future wife Theona Lee Edwards. The couple was married in 1954 and welcomed their first child Victoria Lee VerSluis in October of 1955. The couple later adopted a son in January of 1966 and welcomed Anthony Edward VerSluis into the family. John was a dedicated family man who worked several jobs to support his family. He spent over 30 years at Zurn Air Industries until the company relocated, while also maintaining a three-cabin resort at Great Bear Lake.
Upon retiring from Zurn John devoted the remainder of his work life refurbishing condemned houses while still running the VerSluis Resort Cottages. Known to most as "Johnny V" he never had a bad day and was revered as an honest, hardworking man whose carpentry skills were requested by many. John was always willing to drop all to help a friend or someone in need, putting his own projects on hold until the new job was done. John eventually retired due to health-related issues and enjoyed a long a fulfilling retirement. His quick wit and pleasant demeanor endeared him to all that knew him. John was preceded in death by his parents Marinus and Mary VerSluis, wife Theona L. VerSluis and siblings Rose Miller, Homer VerSluis, Marinus VerSluis and Richard VerSluis.
He is survived by his daughter Victoria Henry and her husband Verlyn, son Anthony E. VerSluis, 3 Grandchildren and 7 Great Grandchildren and 2 Great-Great Grandchildren along with several nieces and nephews. His legacy lives on in all that knew him and those that loved him dearly.
