John H. Vigil Obituary

September 14th, 1940 – January 29th, 2025

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of John H. Vigil. He died peacefully on January 29th, 2025 at the age of 84 with his loving family at his bedside.

John is survived by his wife Joyce Vigil of 62 years, children: Jeraldine Elliott (Jim), son Jeffrey Vigil (Bella), grandchildren: Tyler, Christopher, Allyson Elliott, great granddaughter Satine Brown and siblings: George Vigil, Fred Vigil, and Adela (Dorie) Foust, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his daughter Jacquelyn Vigil, parents Alberto and Josie Vigil, and siblings Mary Vigil, Albertina Romero, Manuel Vigil, and Tobias Vigil.

John was born on September 14th, 1940 to Alberto and Josie Vigil in Aguilar, Colorado. He graduated from Trinidad High School, was a graduate with honors from Adams State College and received a M. A. Degree from the University of Colorado.

John was a devoted and loving husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend. He was a pillar of the community. He also had a loving, giving and kind soul who found education a blessing from God that has been passed down from generation to generation. In his own words, “Education is the Light of the World.” 

John was a principal for 34 years with Adams 12 Five Star Schools and an Adjunct Professor for Metropolitan State College. 

John’s love had no bounds, which made him all the more special. He made his political stance known by staying involved with the Democratic Party and even ran for State Senate. He will always be known as a loving and kind human being to his family, friends, and all who crossed his path. He had a way of making everyone feel special just by having one conversation with them.

Rosary, viewing, services and reception, will be held at Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church, 900 W. Midway Blvd., Broomfield, CO 80020 on February 11th, 2025 at 10:30 am.
