John Francis Vittone, 97, died peacefully, Saturday, January 10th, in Loveland, Colorado, with his children and their families by his side. He was born in New York City on June 3, 1928.

John was preceded in death by his wife, Mona Jean Vittone; and his parents, Augusto and Elena Vittone of Masserano, Italy.

He is survived by his three children and their families: his son, John Vittone, Jr. and wife Evelyn; his daughters, Christina Massara, and Amy Rose and husband Christopher. Grandchildren Gloria Vittone Echevierria and husband AJ, Cynthia Vittone, Zach Massara, Alex Massara and wife Linsey, Lindsey Rose Phelps and husband Craig, and Lauren Rose. Great-grandchildren Sammy Echevierria, Eva Massara, Luke Massara, and Jude Phelps.

John graduated from Manhattan College, NY in 1950 with a BBA degree in Management. He served in the US Air Force (USAF) during the Korean War, stationed with Hq US Air Force, Europe in Wiesbaden, Germany. While in Germany, he married Mona Jean Ivey in November 1953. John was honorably discharged in 1955 but he remained in Germany as an USAF civilian employee until he and Mona returned to the US in 1956.

John continued to work for the USAF in Memphis, TN, and Mobile, AL before moving to Houston in 1962. He was employed at the NASA Johnson Space Center as a Supervisor Accountant and a Budget and Program Control Analyst until retirement from NASA December 1979. After retirement, John was employed by Lockheed Engineering and Management Company, Computer Sciences Corporation and Grumman Tech Services division working on the design and requirements for NASA computerized account systems. He permanently retired in 1995.

John moved to northern Colorado in 2023 to be with his children. John had a great love for life, his wife and family, and his friends. He loved golfing, dancing, traveling, and college football.

John’s family gives heartfelt thanks to Stoneridge at Center Retirement Home and Canyon Home Care and Hospice for all their loving care of John.

John will be interred with his wife, Mona, at the National Cemetery in Houston, Texas. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the charity of choice.
