John S. Votava, age 81, entered into rest Friday June 20, 2025.
He was born on December 16, 1943 in Cleveland, Ohio and lived
in Avon his entire life. He graduated from Avon High School, Class
of 1962 and was a US Air Force Veteran. John was a firefighter with
Avon Lake and Avon for over 35 years, retiring as Assistant Chief with
the Avon Fire department in 2007. He was a member of the Avon Lake
American Legion and was an avid OSU sports fan.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Clare Votava (nee Slattery),
son Sean P. Gorman, brother-in-law Bob Lantz and sister-in-law Mary
Votava. He was preceded in death by his parents John & Mae (nee
Krivos) Votava, brother Rick and sister Ginny.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday June 25, 2025 from 4-8pm
at the MISENCIK FUNERAL HOME, 36363 Detroit Rd Avon. A 10:00 am Mass
will be celebrated on Thursday at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception
Catholic Church, 2640 Stoney Ridge Rd. Avon. Interment will be private.
Memorial contributions may be made to "Fill the Boot"-Muscular Dystrophy
Association, 1016 W. Johnson Blvd.#1073, Chicago, Ill. 60607.
