John Waller Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc. - Rome on Feb. 26, 2026.
John R. Waller, 87, of Rome, passed away on Tuesday, February 24, 2026. Born in Rome on July 22, 1938, he was a son of the late Edward and Mildred (Horn) Waller. In February of 1959 he was united in marriage to Jacquilyn Blowers. She passed away in 2008.

John proudly owned and operated JR Waller Blacktop for many years before his retirement, earning a reputation for hard work, fairness, and craftsmanship.

He was never happier than when he was tending to his 100 acres in Taberg, land he truly loved and took great pride in caring for. John especially enjoyed planting potatoes each season with an old potato planter he carefully restored himself - a reflection of both his skillful hands and appreciation for tradition. In quieter moments, he found peace casting a line and spending time fishing, embracing the simple pleasures of the outdoors.

John is survived by three sons, Douglas J. Waller, Bruce R. Waller (Beverly), and Mark E. Waller (Anita); five grandchildren, Bethany Golden, Dana Waller Hanright, Christopher Waller, Michelle Waller Moulton, and Brianna Waller Petrie; and several great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his sister, Beth Smith.

In keeping with John's wishes there will be no calling hours or service. In honor of his canine companions Heidi, Rocky, and Jake, please consider a donation in John's memory to the Humane Society of Rome.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George Street, Rome, NY 13440.
