John Davis Walton, 76, was born on June 12, 1949, to Lema Webb and Idella Walton in Haynesville, Louisiana, and went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, in Benton, Louisiana.
John was a hardworking man whose dedication to family and love for life left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him. He took pride in his work at both McElroy Metals and Delta Waste, where his commitment and reliability were evident every day. Providing for his loved ones wasn’t just a duty; it was his joy.
John had a voice that reminded many of Frankie Beverly, one of his favorite singers, and he often filled the air with soulful melodies that reflected his warmth and charm. He loved listening to R&B music, spending quiet mornings fishing, and going on hunting trips when he could. He had a special fondness for chicken, whether cooking it or enjoying it with family, and found joy in the simple pleasures of life.
Though he mostly kept to himself, John was deeply compassionate. His kindness ran deep, and he showed it in quiet, meaningful ways. He shared countless memories with his best friend, Jimmy James, and could often be seen cruising in his signature blue Malibu, a car that seemed to carry stories of its own. His loyal dog, Bruiser Brady, and his beloved horse, Skeeta, were constant companions who brought him comfort and joy.
Above all, John was a beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. His love for his family was unwavering, and his legacy lives on in the hearts of those he nurtured, guided, and cherished.
John was preceded in death by his ex-wife, Dorothy Ivory Walton; daughter, Tammy Walton Beene, and her husband, Tommie; and grandson, Johnathan Walton. Left to cherish John’s memory are his daughters, Sherry Ivory Hodge and husband, Johnny, Carolyn Walton Smith and husband, Dandy, Kimberly Johnson, Yolanda Johnson, and Brittany Bunnery; son, Brodrick Johnson; 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; cousins, Billie Jean Capers and Walter Glass, and many cherished extended family and friends.
John’s legacy is one of love, laughter, soulful charm, and quiet compassion. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
